Up and Down Zona Tortona on an ordinary Day - Part 1

Walking around Zona Tortona when there is no fashion or design fair going on is very different from what you have experienced during an event like Salone del Mobile. So if you have read our article Zona Tortona during the Salone del Mobile and you have seen the photographs there, just compare them.

On ordinary days the bridge that crosses the railway tracks of Porta Genova Station looks like this

Via Tortona looks like this

But this does not mean that Zona Tortona is less exciting. We had a look and discovered a lot of interesting and outstanding shops and locations that are just as creative, innovative and extraordinary as the reputation of this district implies.

Here are the MY-MILANO.COM suggestions.

Via Tortona moving upwards from the Porta Genova Station:

Via Tortona, 12

NANA’s THRIFT STORE

Vintage items and clothing and innovative new brands characterize this shop that was inspired by a certain type of shop in Brooklyn, on Brick Lane or in Fairfax. It is a shop as well as a meeting place that since its opening in 2005, it has become a trendsetter in Zona Tortona. Don't miss the "Art Wall" inside the shop a space that is dedicated to new young artists.

HOME DELICATE RESTAURANT & HOME MADE DELICATE FOOD DELIVERY

This is not an ordinary restaurant but a beautiful space which you can also rent for all occasions to give lunches and dinners for friends or business partners. The chef prefers products that are part of the "SLOW FOOD" movement: those lesser known genuine products that are disappearing from the country and that are promoted and protected by "SLOW FOOD" association. If you don't want to leave home or the office, you can also order food directly from their homepage www.home-made.it

BOCCINO

Coffee Bar, Lunch Bar, Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlour - that is BOCCINO and it is so beautiful and chic as well. The combination of antique wooden elements like the tables and the counter, the classical old Italian style signs and modern plexiglas chairs give the right touch of class to this location that is always crowded with bankers and business consultants from the nearby firms. No need to mention that the food and ice-cream are excellent.

Via Tortona, 26

Pizza, Salads and the famous Italian crepes called Piadine with different fillings and tastes. TORTONA 36 has also a few tables outside, so it is a great place when it is warm.

Via Tortona, 35

NHOW HOTEL

The NHOW has reached a cult status already as THE design hotel in Milan but also as an exhibition space during the Salone del Mobile. If you have never seen it, you missed something, so seize the occasion and go at least for a drink or a coffee at the bar.

Via Stendhal:

Via Stendhal, 30

GIBILTERRA
